Seymour spike 4: offline media

Tests saving podcast episodes of 100 MB and more for offline listening: downloading, resuming, playing with no connection, and how much space they really take.

Getting ready for offline use…

1 Find episodes

Looks at five podcasts for a big episode (100 MB or more) and a small one, and checks whether each podcast's server lets Seymour download straight from it.

2 Save them

Big episode, with progress. Straight from the podcast's server when it allows it, otherwise through Seymour's relay.

Small episode, without the relay. The browser saves it without being able to read it, so there's no progress bar.

Small episode, with the app closed. The download carries on in the background, with its progress in a notification. Chrome and Edge only.

3 Play

Plays each saved episode and skips around in it. To test offline listening, turn on airplane mode, reload this page, then play.

Results are kept across reloads, so the offline test adds to them.
